The RainBreakers – ‘Rise Up’ – EP Review

The RainBreakers – ‘Rise Up’ – EP Review

Rainbreakers Logo Rainbreakers by Mark Lloyd_med_1

The RainBreakers have released a beautifully penned 5 track EP dripping with old school charm. It’s like taking a step back in time, rich in quality and DNA with the likes of Free and Bad Company oozing from its pores.  You can loose yourself quite easily in its loose, free flowing style but there’s more than enough going on here to keep complacency in check.

The guys have laid down a strong foundation here, following up on their ‘Blood Not Brass’ EP which gained notoriety and amassed accolades, among which saw the quartet nominated by The British Blues Awards for the Barry Middleton Award for Best Emerging Artist. Now with ‘Rise Up’ the bar has been raised, from the opening track ‘On My Own’ with it’s free flowing style, heavy reverb and screaming wha wha you know you’re in for a trippy ride. The songs all bring big hooks with an unconstrained approach, a free and easy organic feel wrapped up in bluesy undertones the RainBreakers have indeed found their sound.

‘Rise Up’ inspired by a post Brexit, President Trump screwed up world, lays down a funky groove and inspires with its upbeat optimistic vibe. I could easily imagine these tunes being belted out back in the 70’s, with the disillusioned youth of the day replacing 2017’s social media addicted masses.  ‘Waiting On You’ brings out the delicate side to the band, reminiscent of Thin Lizzy’s ‘Still In love With You’ it brings out a quality and depth to the song writing well beyond the bands years. ‘Perception’ is all about that all out unconditional love, with its hazy psychedelic vibe and haunting melody the guys pull out all the stops.

The EP wraps up with ‘Living Free’, a savage tune with a riff Lalo Schifrin would be proud of, kicking in with a sexy beat and delicious guitar tone over-layed with Ben Edwards vocals, the cherry has indeed been placed firmly on this EP cake! A quality EP from start to finish, it’s not hard to understand why the RainBreakers have gained such high praise and a dedicated following. The guys are hitting the road to dovetail the release of this succinct little beauty so catch them while you can.

The Rise Up EP is released 7th April and can be pre-ordered from the official Rainbreakers “Bandcamp” page
