The greatest compliment I could possibly give this album is – that after listening to it, it just felt like coming home. I am embarrassed to say this was my first venture into King King and it was an unforgettable experience. They have been a band on my radar for a while. but with reviews coming in thick and fast I just couldn’t find the time to give them a spin. So with the release of their first LIVE CD ‘King King Live ‘this was the perfect opportunity to immerse myself in this highly rated blues quartet.
‘King King Live’ is available as a Deluxe 3 disc set – 2CD & DVD covering a hometown show in Glasgow for the live CD from the 02 ABC and a DVD recorded at the Holmfirth Picturedome. As a newcomer to King King by the end of the first song I knew there was something really special about this band, their quality immediately shone through with engrossing vocals and captivating melodies. It was obvious these guys are here to stay. High quality song writing with pop rock nuances and undeniable roots deep in blues make for a really compelling performance. A joy to listen too and an opportunity for the likes of Alan Nimmo – Lead singer and guitarist to flex his musical muscles with powerful songs saturated with delicate solo work and intricate touches that instantaneously grab your attention.
The journey this band has taken to produce the finished article for this live cd was an arduous one, fraught with technical glitches – trials and tribulations but none of that show on this beautifully recorded album, for established King King fans this album will be a must have in their collection, for newbie’s like me it represents a perfect introduction to a high quality band at the very top of their game. Born in 2010 and with 3 studio albums under their belt Nimmo felt now was the time for a live cd saying “We are excited about ‘King King Live’ because it’s the first time we’ve ever released a live album. It’s a great testament to how our audiences drive us on to perform to the best of our abilities. The audience reaction to the live performances is amazing this release couldn’t have been possible without them”. And they clearly are a band who thrive to play live, racking up award after award, King King recently won five awards at the 2016 British Blues Awards including Best Album (“Reaching For The Light”), Best Vocalist (Alan Nimmo), Best Bass Player (Lindsay Coulson), Best Song (“Rush Hour”) and Best Songwriter. Take note folks and remember then name King King, A band so good they named themselves twice.
King King are Alan Nimmo (vocals, guitar), Lindsay Coulson (bass), Wayne Proctor (drums) and Bob Fridzema (keyboards) and in support of this new live cd they hit the road with a new November 12th date UK tour with the Broken Witt Rebels.
