INGLORIOUS – ‘INGLORIOUS’ REVIEW

INGLORIOUS – ‘INGLORIOUS’ REVIEW

Quick question. Do you fancy some new hard rock n roll? Influenced by the likes of Deep Purple, Bad Company, Whitesnake, Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin to name a few? With the soaring vocals from a seasoned live pro? Yes you say? Alright then, I present to you the self titled debut album from Inglorious
Formed in 2014 and fronted by Nathan James, who has sung with as diverse acts as the Trans-Siberian-Orchestra and ex Scorpions axe man Uli Jon Roth with lead guitars from Sweden’s Andreas Eriksson, Rhythm guitars from Will Taylor, bass provided by Colin Parkinson with Phil Beaver on the drums.
Hearing statements like.. “Saviours of Rock” “The Future of Rock N Roll” are thrown out there far to easily these days, but when you have Queen‘s Brian May comparing them to a “potent young Deep Purple“  those statements just may turn out to be true.
Lead track ‘Until I Die’ has had a lot of airplay recently and deservedly so. What a track to open a debut album! Nathan doesn’t hold back as he hits you with his proverbial ten ton hammer vocals, the tight band keep the heavy melodies under ferocious control, it has such a catchy chorus that my 9 yr old daughter is already singing along to every word after I’ve been bombarding her from the car CD the last few days.
‘Breakaway’ continues along the same lines, with ‘High Flying Gypsy’ giving the modern twist on a Zeppelin vibe. ‘Holy Water’ has a much more bluesy multi layered tone to it  where track 5 ‘Warning’ brings it back to the thumping backline and rockier sound around the soaring vocals. ‘Bleed For You’ is the albums big rock ballad moment, the 1st time the album brings it down a touch, well that’s until the chorus kicks in, and it’s full on turned up to 11 wailing again. Let me just point out, even in those screaming moments Mr James still has tremendous control of the melody even in the highest of ranges. ‘Girl Got A Gun’ and especially ‘You’re Mine’ bring that classic 70′s groove up to date, when a later chorus goes up an octave, wow goosebumps!
‘Inglorious’ is my stand out favourite track. Just loving the big heart pounding bass line, and with the repeated  anthem of “we will rise victorious” well I’m not going to be the one to argue with that, I have no doubts whatsoever that victorious is what they certainly will be.
The acoustic led ‘Wake’ shows Nathan James has a full all round vocal range, this could be the mainstream radio friendly hit, as good a rock ballad you will hear anywhere.
The final track on the album ‘Unaware’, after fooling you into believing its a nice calm track with a 1 minute + piano intro, the rest of the band come in to hit you right between the eyes, to close out what is an excellent debut album.
I’m told the album was tracked using the old school method of everyone actually being in a room playing together, no auto tune no overdubs no click tracks, you sure get an exciting live vibe from the album, which bodes well that they will be an exciting live band out on the road.
I’ve had a lot of classic rock influenced, up and coming bands lately to review, and I’m sure liking what I’m hearing in the rock scene right now. If this is the future of rock n roll, then it’s firmly in safe hands.
Catch them on their upcoming headline tour and in support of the Winery Dogs. Now that is a quality live line up.
The ghosts of rock music’s past are definitely present here, but believe me these boys could be the ghosts of rock musics future!
