Erja Lyytinen – ” Stolen Hearts ” – Album Review

Erja Lyytinen – ” Stolen Hearts ” – Album Review

Erja Lyytinen is back with her 10th Studio album “Stolen Hearts”, it’s a fantastic blend of slide guitar wizardry and guitar virtuosity, fused with fine song writing and highly addictive melodies superbly showcasing her years of experience. In a journey of styles you get her take on the blues, funk, jazz, folk and more.

The self titled album opener ‘Stolen Hearts’ is a tasty little blues number with Erja throwing licks around for fun, taking you on a bluesy trip through her take on a ravenous man eater. ‘Rocking Chair’ breaks in with its funky intro and sublime slide work, while ‘Love Laboratory’ slows the pace down briefly before its sexy little chorus takes over. ‘24 Angels’ touches on Erja’s thoughts on mortality in a highly charged blues number where she rocks out in an almost violent solo, aggressively grappling with her instrument.

Another addictive melody lays the foundation to ‘Black Ocean’, a song where guitar is Queen, with its sumptuous solo Erja illustrates her guitar virtuosity beyond the slide in a slick and calculated solo; with each lick, bend and run you feel every pull of the string in this massive solo. ‘Slowly Burning’ is your basic heart wrenching blues number full of soul and passion, ‘Lovers Novels’ with its Stevie Wonder like funky melody lifts the tempo and pace in a swift little number that sticks in the head. The album wraps up perfectly with ‘Broken Eyes’
